National Transmission Company South Africa SOC Ltd (NTCSA) is a wholly owned subsidiary of Eskom, legally separated on 1 July 2024 to operate the country’s national electricity transmission network. Headquartered at Megawatt Park, 2 Maxwell Drive, Sunninghill, Sandton, Johannesburg 2157, Gauteng, South Africa, NTCSA now independently manages nearly 33,200 km of high-voltage power lines and over 169 substations with total capacity of over 159,000 MVA, inherited from Eskom’s previous transmission division.
It is licensed by NERSA to transmit, trade, import/export energy, and facilitate grid access for independent power producers. NTCSA plays a critical role in enabling South Africa's grid expansion—including the Green Energy Corridor—and is actively seeking private-sector financing to scale transmission infrastructure. As of 2025, Eskom forecasted needing ≈ 350 billion ZAR in transmission investment over the next decade.
